NOTE TO READERS

Hi once more! My name is Aayansh. Today we are learning about Virat Kohli.

I am writing this as a surprise for my older cousin who lives in India. He loves Virat Kohli. So does my dad who lives with me so it is for him too. So let's get into Virat Kohli's world!

Intro

Virat Kohli is one of the world's best cricket players. He plays for India. He is a batter. Virat Kohli is known for his cover drives.

Early Life

Virat was born on November 5 1988 in New Delhi, India. His parents are Prem and Saroj. Virat's hometown is New Delhi, India. He has an older brother named Vikas.

At just 3 years old Virat picked up cricket like Kobe Bryant picked up Basketball (I did a blog on Kobe too, you can read about it here.)

He would often pick up a bat and ask his father to bowl to him.

When Virat was a tiny bit older he picked up gully cricket where if you hit a 6 you're out and if a fielder catches the ball 1 tip 1 hand then the batsman is out!

Later at 14, Virat made it to the U14 and U15 team for Delhi. Unfortunately in 2006 Virat's father died.

Middle Life

In 2008 Virat Kohli got selected for RCB [Royal Challengers Bangalore] in the Indian premier league. He later on went farther! In 2010 in the tri-series for the indian national cricket team against Zimbabwe Virat scored 300 runs in total 5 games.

Virat Kohli's test debut was against West Indies on June 20 2011 where India won and Virat scored 19 runs. He felt very sad because of his bad day. On that day Virat did not do well because he didn't try hard enough.

2011 was a very important year in Kohli's life - He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in that year and although India lost that match and Virat didn't score alot of runs but later that same year, Kohli got to be part of India's ODI winning world cup squad. A highlight of his career as he often explains.

In the world cup Kohli scored 282 runs in 9 matches. During the world cup he only scored a century against Bangladesh. Virat was young playing with game changers like Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni and got to learn from those legends.

In his ODI debut against Sri Lanka he scored 12 runs off 22 balls. He got LBW [Leg Before Wicket] by Nuwan Kulasekara, a Sri Lanka fast bowler.

In the 2013 Champions trophy India got the triumph!

Unfortunately for Virat India had a tricky tour of England in 2014. After the tricky tour he averaged 13.4. In the same year he had a tour against Australia where he score 3 centuries in his first innings.

In 2014 his captaincy had started!

Virat was a very good test captain because India has won 40 tests out of 68 tests that they played under Virat's captaincy. Virat is the only Indian captain to win the 2018-19 test series against Australia in Australia.

Australian rules โ€”

it is tricky for any team to beat Australia when they're playing at home, because Australia plays really well in familiar ground conditions and the crowd is yelling "Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi" it is hard to focus on your batting.

India has never lost a single test match in their hometown. Kohli holds a record for 9,230 runs. He was the captain and has over 8,000 runs in IPL, becoming the highest run scorer in IPL.

Virat Kohli's nickname is VK18 because his jersey number is 18.

In 2016 Virat had a ODI game against Sri Lanka where he scored 200 runs! He did not let Lasith Malinga, a star Sri Lanka bowler get his wicket.

Later in the 2024 world cup Virat's team once versed Pakistan and he was hitting the star pakistani bowlers named Shaheen Shah Afradi and Haris Rauf. India got to the final against South Africa where India won. India beat New Zealand in the 2025 champions trophy and 2026 world cup! And in the 2026 series against New Zealand New Zealand won but in the next series India won 4-1.

So Virat Kohli has the best cover drive in the world and has the most centuries is what i admire about him.

Late Life

If Virat Kohli didn't achieve his goals Indian cricket fans like me would have less options of who is their idol unless if they like loads of teams like me. Virat made a difference by inspiring a lot of young fans like me. So that is Virat Kohli.
